Matn (English)

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Prophet (ﷺ) saw an old man walking between his two sons, and he said: What is the matter with him?' His sons said: 'A vow, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Let this old man ride, for Allah has no need of you or your vow."'

Matn (Arabic)

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ كَاسِبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ رَأَى النَّبِيُّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ شَيْخًا يَمْشِي بَيْنَ ابْنَيْهِ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ مَا شَأْنُ هَذَا ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ ابْنَاهُ نَذْرٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ ارْكَبْ أَيُّهَا الشَّيْخُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْكَ وَعَنْ نَذْرِكَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

9307 Sahih Muslim Abu Huraira reported: Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) found an old man walking between his two sons supported by them, whereupon Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said: What is the matter with him? He (the narrator) said: Allah's Messenger, they are his sons and there is upon him the (fulfilment) of the vow, whereupon Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said: Ride, old man, for Allah is not in need of you and your vow. 30391 Jami' al-Tirmidhi Narrated Anas: "The Prophet (ﷺ) passed by old man walking (while supported) between his two sons, so he said: 'What is the matter with this one?' They said: "O Messenger of Allah! He vowed to walk.' He said: 'Verily Allah [the Mighty and Sublime] is in no need of this person punishing himself.'" He said: "So he ordered him to ride." 749 Sahih Bukhari Narrated Anas: The Prophet saw an old man walking, supported by his two sons, and asked about him. The people informed him that he had vowed to go on foot (to the Ka`ba). He said, "Allah is not in need of this old man's torturing himself," and ordered him to ride. Compare Asnad
33410 Sunan Abi Da'ud Narrated Anas b. Malik : The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saw a man that he was supported between his sons. He asked about him, and (the people) said: He has taken a vow to walk (on foot). Thereupon he said: Allah has no need that this man should punish himself, and he ordered him to ride. Abu Dawud said: 'Amr b. Abi 'Amir has also narrated a similar tradition from al-A'raj on the authority of Abu Hurairah from the Prophet (ﷺ). Compare Asnad
34324 Sunan an-Nasa'i It was narrated that Anas said: "The Messenger of Allah passed by an old man who was being supported between two men and said: 'What is the matter with him?' They said: 'He vowed to walk.' He said: 'Allah has no need for him to torture himself. Tell him to ride.'" So he was told to ride. Compare Asnad
